why cornwall is the spring stay you didn’t know you needed

Spring in Cornwall isn’t loud. It doesn’t announce itself with trumpets or theatrics. It just…arrives. A whiff of wild garlic. More flashes of sunshine. A coastline stretching its legs after a long winter. Before you know it, everything feels brighter, lighter and very tempting indeed.

If you’re wondering whether a spring break in Cornwall is worth it, the answer is a resounding yes. And if you still need a little convincing, here are some of many reasons why you should cross the Tamar and head our way.

That special, unique, Cornish light arrives

The light in Cornwall is pure magic all year round, but spring light is something else entirely. It drapes itself over the coast just beyond our window like it owns the place. Walk the coast path near Talland Bay and you’ll notice it: bouncing off sea that looks bluer now and making the yellow gorse that blankets the coastline this time look all the more golden still.

Cornwall, but quieter…and dare we say, better?

Spring is Cornwall comes without the queue for the ice cream or the pasties, without the jostling for space on the pavement or to park.

Looe and Polperro move at a slower, more charming pace in spring. Fishermen are out on the water, cafés fizz with fresh energy, and our harbour towns have an air of unfurling about them.

Nature wakes up like it’s been saving everything for this moment

If you’ve forgotten what green smells like, spring in Cornwall will remind you.

Daffodils stage a cheerful takeover of roadside verges. Blossom appears with all subtlety of a confetti cannon. The hedgerows start humming with life again. The sea starts putting on a show under blue skies, welcoming brave dippers to return. Near Talland Bay, the lanes towards Looe and Polperro transform into winding, leafy corridors that make even a two-minute drive feel like an adventure.

A season made for slow plans

Spring breaks away don’t tend to have the same rush and sense of agenda as summer stays.

Cornwall is perfectly content to let you drift through the day. Perhaps you’ll wander down to the beach before breakfast, now that mornings are finally light well before 9am. Maybe you’ll meander to Looe, tuck into something baked and naughty for lunch. Perhaps you won’t make any further than one of our benches with its own sea views and that book you haven’t got around to reading yet. That’s our idea of a productive afternoon, if ever we knew one.

If the first bursts of blue sky amidst seemingly – statistically – endless rain, consider this your sign to put a spring stay in Cornwall in your diary. Our gardens are growing, our spring menu is set to leap into action, and our spring package is poised to make your next visit as indulgent as it is adventurous.

Whether you want a long weekend of foodie luxury, a midweek reset by the sea, or just the promise of something to look forward to on the horizon after a long old winter, we’ll spoil you rotten.
