How to plan the perfect wedding by the sea at Talland Bay Hotel

If your dream wedding involves getting together a small group of your nearest and dearest for a clifftop celebration by the sea in Cornwall, then Talland Bay Hotel is the perfect place to say ‘I do’.  Our assistant deputy manager, Kyra Varney, recently started looking after wedding planning and we asked her what couples can expect from their special day at our luxury hotel.

How long have you been looking after weddings at Talland Bay Hotel? What do you like about your role?

I have been in the role for four months now. I really enjoy making people’s big day special!

What makes a wedding at Talland Bay Hotel different from anywhere else?

We're a hotel that does weddings, not a wedding venue. This allows our weddings to be more intimate and tailored specially to our guests.

What’s the first thing that couples always ask you?

Do you ever get bored of that view?!

How many people can you accommodate?

Our maximum occupancy for ceremonies, receptions and wedding breakfasts is 50 people. For evening parties, we can accommodate 100 maximum.

Where can couples get married? Can they tie the knot with a sea view?

Most of our ceremonies are held at the front of the restaurant overlooking the bay, and if the weather is good, we have the bi-fold doors open. Alternatively, thanks to new legislation, you can now get married in our clifftop garden.

Do you take care of everything for the big day?

Yes. When arranging a wedding, we ask our guests to send over pictures of how they would like their centrepieces, card tables, any special touches they want added etc. This way, couples can relax knowing everything will be done exactly how they would like it.

Do you have to book the hotel exclusively?

We prefer to offer exclusive use as the hotel is small and intimate. There are four packages to choose from, three are exclusive use:

·      Diamond, available on any day of the week, October to May.
·      Emerald, available from Monday to Thursday, October to March.
·      Ruby, available from Monday to Thursday, October to February.
We then also offer one non-exclusive use wedding package:
·      Sapphire, available Monday to Thursday, December to February.

Tell us a little bit about the food…

There are four different food menus, depending on which package you're wishing to book. All the menus are amazing, however the higher the package you book the better the food choice. Glen has done a very good job!

Are dogs welcome at Talland Bay Hotel weddings?

Dogs are more than welcome to join their owners at the hotel for their special day. Usually, the restaurant is our dog-free area, however, for our exclusive use wedding guests, their dogs can join them.

Which is the best suite for the married couple to book?

The bridal suite comes as complimentary with our exclusive use wedding packages. We offer Room 20 due to it being the most luxurious, relaxing and heavenly room.  It has a private balcony with a hot tub overlooking the sea.

What’s the best wedding you’ve ever been to (tell us a little bit about it)?

I've been at the hotel for six years coming up in June so have worked a fair few weddings, but there are two that really stand out.
The first was Jack’s wedding (our GM). That one was so fun to work as we knew Jack, we could all be very relaxed, have fun and get involved during the evening.

The second would be one that we did last year, they had postponed their wedding three times due to covid. The day before their wedding they had glorious sunshine but the day of the wedding it started raining really hard. It came to the time for photos, and it just stopped raining. The wedding party managed to get out and get a load of amazing photos. When it came to coming back inside for the wedding breakfast, once the last person had stepped inside it instantly started raining again. IT WAS MAGICAL!
