Cornwall is synonymous with excellent seafood and we feel it is important to protect the fisheries around the south west from overfishing. In order to play our part in this, we choose the fish we use at the Talland Bay Hotel carefully, aiming to buy only sustainably caught varieties. We try to choose fish that has been caught on day boats – smaller vessels that spend only one day at sea, limiting the areas where they can fish and the quantities they can catch.
This has two benefits – the waters further out to sea are left undisturbed, allowing fish stocks to recover, and the fish landed is incredibly fresh. We also avoid dredged shellfish, as dredging destroys the sea bed. Look out for hand-dived scallops and hand-lined fish on our menu – catching seafood the old-fashioned way results in better quality and minimal environmental impact.
